Yes. This issue would certainly be addressed in a 1.8.10-wc1 release. In the meantime, there is a patch available.

We still have many customers running our 1.8.x releases. What Chris is referring to below is that the CDWG focuses on active 2.x code lines, rather than historic code lines that support vendors need to maintain for their customerbase.
