In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: [C:\Users\rvanderb\Downloads\Image_0] August 14, 2012 To the scalable parallel file systems community, The Benchmarking Work Group (BWG) under OpenSFS is seeking volunteers from the scalable parallel file systems community to participate in a survey to assist us with our research to characterize I/O workloads. This research will help us identify performance evaluation and benchmarking tools which you or your storage provider can run on your existing scalable parallel file system or on the next one you are planning to acquire and deploy. The survey is voluntary and, all data returned to the OpenSFS BWG will be anonymized before public release. There are no mandatory fields. The BWG appreciates whatever answers you can give. The data received will only be used to help with our research. To assist with the collection of the data, the BWG has assembled a few useful scripts to run. If you have any questions regarding the survey please feel free to contact us. For your efforts the Benchmarking Work Group will recommend open source I/O benchmarking tools that best match your workloads. If desired, BWG will connect you with other facilities or companies with similar workloads. Dave and I have still not received any feedback from the board on the TWG's recommendations for new features, which we submitted at the end of May. We have stated our concern that their delay may prevent our completing an RFP this summer in order to be able to announce an award at SC12 this November. We'll keep you posted. Also, we are in the process of assembling a PAC for the IU contract. We'll be sending more info as the project moves forward. But we will have one next week (8/30/2012) where we have a couple topics on the agenda. Dave Wallace from the OpenSFS board will join us to discuss plans for the next RFP based on the requirements the TWG submitted to the board at the end of May. We also will discuss creation of the Project Advisory Committee (PAC) for the IU UID Mapping and Shared Key projects. Please let submit other topics to the reflector. There are two topics for discussion: 1) New development RFP We submitted our recommendation for new development projects late this spring (http://goo.gl/vYmi1). Dave Wallace, representing the OpenSFS Board, will provide guidance on the projects the Board has decided the TWG will pursue with an RFP this fall. 2) IU PAC IU and OpenSFS finally signed the agreement for IU to develop LustreWAN security enhancements. The statement of work will be published to our OpenSFS website soon. The Board will also soon appoint a technical representative to lead the Program Adivisory Committee (PAC) overseeing the project for OpenSFS.
