Hi all,

Please see below for an email from Jodi Wing of LoudDog with design ideas for the new OpenSFS web pages. The committee has selected Concept 1. We have until Tuesday, 10/30, close of business to finalize our choice. This short turnaround is due to wanting to use our new design for an SC12 brochure.

Please review the designs and reply back to me by Tuesday if you have any feedback. We know the messaging needs some tweaking and LoudDog will be working on that over the next week.

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for your time today! We really got some good insight about who you want to be as an organization and how you'd like to make that more clear. I think we all agree that the messaging needs some adjustment to shift its focus away from Lustre as the solo act and towards an open HPC community. With that in mind, we think "KEEPING HPC OPEN" is another strong headline, but wanted to toss it out to you all now, as this may be a statement that has objections from the group.

We'll circle back with Jesse to see if we can massage the messaging together in more detail over the next week.

We've all agreed that for the first phase of Opensfs.org's homepage, we'll steer clear of ongoing dynamic content like News, Events, or tweets, for a clear and inspiring organizational message that encourages new members. We'll focus on providing a site that can deliver fresh and active content on its homepage for lustre.opensfs.org.

Our takeaway from today's call is that the visual languages we presented are on track but the messaging is a bit too Lustre focused and OpenSFS does not want all its eggs in one basket. With that special note in mind, I've attached the presentation for distribution to any stakeholders that may be interested.

Chris - as you mentioned you were not wild about the sullivannyc.com animation between frames, here is another site that handles it differently, where you click on any of the items in the nav bar (or arrows near each dotted line) and the scrolling animates you to a stop: http://rodesk.nl/
We may be able to explore something similar for our Open Seas concept.

Norm - we'll move ahead with Open Seas if we do not hear any other feedback by EOB next Tuesday, Oct 30.

In the meantime, we'll focus on refined messaging, and think a bit on a brochure layout for SC12 using the Open Seas concept. We'll need to push hard next week to get the brochure complete so it can be printed in time for SC12 and delivered to SLC by 11/8.
